Hello, my name is Ali.

I am an indie game developer in Seattle WA, and this is my portfolio!

I make weird little video games, sometimes to make something goofy and fun, sometimes because there need to be more explicitly queer video games, and sometimes just because I thought of another way to make chess worse.

If you want to play them, here they are!

If you want to get in touch with me, you can email me at alice.krouse@gmail.com

SHOOTOUT! In Lone Alley

SHOOTOUT! is a 1v1 silent western video game in which the players take the place of 2 cowboys having a shootout at high noon. As it is a silent film video game, the game is completely silent aside from a film reel clicking and some background saloon ragtime music.

This game was commissioned for the VGA Gallery's Chicago New Media Remix Night, and is available to play here!

...chess?

...chess? is a game made on a very simple yet strange concept: what if chess had physics interactions? This game works on the rules of a standard chess game, but to move your pieces you must drag back and fling them across the board, knocking other pieces around like pool balls.

I developed this game solo, and it is available to play here!

Another Bad Chess Game

Another Bad Chess Game is built on the simple idea of adding die rolls to chess. Rather than simply moving your pieces like normal chess, this game has the player roll a die to determine how far their pieces can move, and roll DND style strength contests to capture opposing pieces.

I developed this game solo, and it is available to play here!

KMG Tournament : Kiss More Girls

KMG Tournament is a collection of 5 small local multiplayer sports games in which all the sports have been edited to include kissing in the rules. The collection includes games ranging from 2 to 8 players with all kinds of different mechanics.

I developed this game solo, and it is available to play here!

Bonnie Tyler Summons an Elder Being

BTSAEB is probably the weirdest thing I've made, but it's very simple. The player stands on a glowing pentagram in the cosmos facing a heart shaped moon. A very slow and horrifying version of Total Eclipse of the Heart is playing, and all the player has to do to complete their dark ritual is make a 180° rotation from where they were last facing every time the song says "turn around".

I developed this game for fun over a weekend, and it is available to play here!

Walls

Walls is a simple browser game exploring feelings of trauma and hardening your heart after being hurt.

I developed this game solo, and it is available to play here!

Walls

Bathroom Blitz

Bathroom Blitz is a top down pseudo stealth game about trying to safely use public restrooms as a trans woman. Players will have to enter a restroom, pee, wash their hands, and leave all while avoiding the gaze of the other women in the restroom AND managing their dysphoria.

I developed this game solo, and it is available to play here!

Other projects I've worked on:

Darkening Horizons

This is an open world exploration game in which the player may wander through an abandoned world, seeking answers to its emptiness.

I developed the environment design and art for this game with a team of student developers as our senior capstone project, it was unfortunately never made available online.

Darkening Horizons

The Cat Who Did Not Want To Take A Bath

This is a 3D stealth game in which the player is a cat trying to hide from their owner around the apartment in order to avoid being given a bath.

I developed this along with a small team as part of a 3 week game sprint in college, and it is available to play here!

Neon Knight

This is an innovative 2D platformer in which the player takes control of the platforms, and uses them to create a path for an automatically moving character

I worked on the art for this game with a small team of student developers, and it is available to play here!
